Teachers across North Ottawa County Public Schools returned to work on Thursday, August 7, kicking off the year with a full day of professional development. Staff participated in several sessions consisting of required annual training, standards alignment, and the district’s new vision and mission.
A highlight of the day was a powerful keynote address titled "Telling Your Story: Engagement Through Connection" by guest speaker Don Epps. This event was hosted in downtown Minneapolis. A special thank you to Keir and Ashley Swisher for allowing USD 239 to utilize The Farm's meeting room for the afternoon session.
The training balanced learning with fun, including an energetic air jam to Journey’s "Don’t Stop Believing", performed by several enthusiastic staff.
“It was great to see all of our professionals at the convocation this morning,” said Superintendent Dr. Curtis Stevens. “Today we celebrate a new school year and all of the hard-working professionals—bus drivers, cooks, custodians, administrative assistants, teachers, and administrators—all who make North Ottawa County Public Schools a special place. Our staff is excited to welcome students on Wednesday, August 13."
