Overnight Shelter Final

MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. — In response to widespread power outages caused by recent severe weather across Ottawa County, USD 239 North Ottawa County Public Schools and Ottawa County Emergency Management are partnering to provide an overnight shelter for residents in need.

The shelter will be located in the Minneapolis Jr./Sr. High School New Gym and will be available for impacted Ottawa County residents. Shelter check-in will take place on Wednesday, June 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Upon arrival, residents should use the east or west entrances near the New Gym.

Individuals planning to stay overnight are encouraged to bring blankets, pillows, medications, personal hygiene items, and any other necessities. This shelter will provide a safe place for those who need overnight accommodations.

A daytime cooling station is also available at the Ottawa County Courthouse, 307 N. Concord Street, on June 10 for residents seeking relief from the heat.

“This shelter is being offered as part of the ongoing Memorandum of Understanding between USD 239 and Ottawa County Emergency Management,” said USD 239 Superintendent Curtis Stevens. “Our school district is committed to supporting our community during emergencies, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside county officials to assist residents during this challenging situation.”
