A dedicated group of teachers takes extra steps to strengthen early literacy by pursuing specialized reading certification through LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling). LETRS systematically prepares and builds a teacher's capacity to improve a student's proficiency. Committed to student success, these educators attend intensive evening training sessions, demonstrating their determination to ensure that every child becomes a confident reader.
The training is led by two Minneapolis Grade School teachers, Mrs. Hauck and Mrs. Pratt, who are currently completing their LETRS Facilitator Certification and have taken on an additional leadership role in helping colleagues. They actively support their colleagues by sharing strategies, modeling best practices, and helping guide the implementation of new reading techniques in classrooms across USD 239.
This collaborative effort reflects the strength and professionalism of our teaching staff. Their willingness to invest personal time and energy highlights a shared passion for improving literacy outcomes for all students.
By building internal expertise and supporting one another, these educators exemplify the high-quality professionals who make North Ottawa County Public Schools a place where students can learn and thrive in reading and beyond. #LionPride!
