During the month of December, the Minneapolis High School's National Honor Society (NHS) was especially busy serving the community through several meaningful projects that reflect the spirit of the season. While NHS students typically complete a service project each month, December’s holiday focus created additional opportunities to give back.

Students participated in Operation Christmas Child by donating gifts and packing shoeboxes filled with items for children in need. A group of NHS members also assisted at the Community Bible Church by loading trailers with shoebox donations collected from across the community. Through the Ottawa County Angel Tree, students each selected 2 kids, shopped for gifts, and worked together to wrap presents, funded through NHS fundraising efforts. Additionally, members rang bells for Love In Action each Saturday morning from Thanksgiving break through Christmas outside Gene’s IGA, raising funds to support Ottawa County residents

CollageAlthough the holiday season is over--these students are no where near to being done. Upcoming efforts include a homemade bierock and dessert fundraiser this Friday, January 16 at the MJSHS Basketball Game. NHS Students will also be facilitating the games at the Minneapolis Grade School’s Annual Carnival on February 7. Come out and join the fun!

All of these activities help students grow in leadership, teamwork, and compassion while deepening their understanding of our local needs. #LionPride!
