Lady Lions

The Minneapolis Junior High Girls’ Basketball Team delivered a strong performance last Tuesday night, defeating the Beloit Trojans 31–13 in front of an energized home crowd.

Head coach Cody Flinn praised his team’s focus and development after the win, noting how far the group has come since the start of the season. “The team has been working very hard to improve every day in practice, and through their hard work, we have seen drastic improvement on the court during games. During the game versus Beloit, the girls got to see their hard work pay off with a winning performance. We hope to build on the momentum from that victory going into the second half of the season.”

Eighth-grader Morgan McClure, who led the game in points, echoed that sentiment. “I have set a few goals for myself this year, such as being a team player, doing what's best for the team, and leading them to the right mindset.”

Coach Flinn added, “The girls are an inspiration to one another with their encouragement and positive comments. The coaching staff appreciates their willingness to work hard every day in practice and do their best with a positive attitude to ensure we get better.”

When asked about the team’s most significant improvement, McClure answered, “Not giving up even if the score says otherwise, and getting confidence in ourselves and each other.” McClure highlighted one particular moment in the game, “The play I am most proud of is when Peyton Chesney got put in and made a three (counted as a two but was very close). I am proud of her for that because it was her first time in a long time going out for basketball and being on the varsity court. She did exactly what she needed to do! I believe that even if our record doesn't show it, we have improved and continue to improve in order to achieve success.”

With the big win against Beloit now in the books, the Lady Lions look forward to playing their next game against Republic County on Monday evening. Go Lions!
