Minneapolis Elementary School was filled with pride and patriotism on the evening of November 6 as fifth- and sixth-grade students hosted a touching Veterans Program honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The ceremony began with a presentation of the Color Guard by Minneapolis VFW Post 3201, followed by a stirring rendition of the National Anthem sung by Elle Scott, MJSHS Senior.
Students led the audience through a heartfelt musical tribute with performances of “America the Beautiful,” “American Tears,” and “Step in Time,” celebrating the spirit of freedom and gratitude. For the 13th consecutive year, the VFW Auxiliary #3201 presented handmade quilts to local veterans—adding to the 154 quilts they’ve gifted over the years as tokens of appreciation for their service.
The Patriot Pen essay winners were also recognized: 1st Place, McKinley Hosler; 2nd Place, Adalyn Harris; and 3rd Place, Haven Kindall. McKinley Hosler, a sixth grader, read her essay on how kids can show patriotism—by placing their hand on their heart during the Pledge, learning the nation’s history, and thanking veterans. Her words served as a timeless reminder for all generations.

The evening concluded with a moving sing-along to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.,” uniting the crowd in a shared expression of gratitude. In North Ottawa County Public Schools, the teaching of our nation's values and traditions, and most importantly-- patriotism, is alive and well. Thank you to the men and women who have and continue to serve our great nation!
