The MHS volleyball team wrapped up an impressive season defined by a strong sense of purpose, growth, and grit. The team’s seniors and captains significantly shaped the program’s culture early in the season. Addison Abell stated, "As a team captain, you want to create a team atmosphere that is both fun to be a part of and competitive when the time comes." Kaitlyn Worlock, one of the team captains, stated, “We had a team dinner and played slip-in-slide kickball to kick off the season. This helped everyone get to know each other better and created a sense of trust and friendship that carried over to the court.” Head Coach Kristina Harris added, “Throughout the season, the senior leaders organized team events, Fun Friday themes, and kept our Instagram active. They were super approachable and set a great tone for the younger girls.”

On the court, Coach Harris reflected on key turning points that fueled the Lady Lions’ success, noting that matches against Nemaha Central and Concordia were when “it started to click. The girls began to really feel and see their potential. We took that into regionals and substate with better court chemistry and team-centered thinking.”
Throughout the season, the focus went beyond physical play. “We worked hard to develop our volleyball IQ,” Coach Harris explained. “We wanted the girls to be intentional and controlled, not reactionary. We also emphasized mental toughness.” That mindset carried over into life lessons beyond the gym. “One player told me she learned that the game doesn’t define her worth—and that was huge,” she shared. Kaitlyn Worlock added, “Whether we were winning or losing, I made it a goal to bring positivity and keep our heads up, whether on the bench or the court.”
Looking ahead, the MHS Volleyball program is setting its sights high. “Clearly, we want to win,” Coach Harris said. “We’re returning several key starters and have a solid group of underclassmen. The future of MHS Volleyball is exciting—we’re locked in and ready to build on what we started.”
Addison Abell noted, "Our season was full of ups and downs, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. We learned, we conquered, and as a team, we played with our hearts on our sleeves for our teammates." Although Kaitlin Worlock played her last high school match in Holcomb last Saturday, she added, “I’m proud of what we accomplished this year, but even more excited for what’s to come for the girls next year. The Lady Lions are just getting started!” Indeed they are! #LionPride
