Reading NIght

Approximately 130 people gathered at Minneapolis Elementary School on Monday evening for a lively Family Night event centered on healthy habits and reading success. The evening began with a pizza supper provided by Oppa!, the school’s food service partner. During the meal, Mrs. Mullen, USD 239's Food Service Director, shared valuable tips on making nutritious food choices and invited families to offer feedback on how to enhance the school’s lunch program.

Lunch
After supper, families moved to the gym, where Mrs. Hauck, the school’s Title I Reading Intervention Specialist, led a short session for parents on the importance of sounds in explicit reading instruction. Mrs. Hauck, trained in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling)—a key literacy initiative across Kansas—shared strategies to support early readers.

Meanwhile, students enjoyed playtime, activity stations, popcorn, and a short movie. The evening reflected the district’s vision of a premier community inspiring all to learn, work, and thrive. A special thank you to all of the MGS Staff for helping make the evening a successful and engaging event!
