USD 239 North Ottawa County Public Schools is proud to highlight a creative health initiative led by Linda Smith, MGS Physical Education teacher. This fall, the DEAM (Drop Everything and Move) program encouraged students and their families to become physically active and take meaningful steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
Each day in September, students were challenged to complete one of 30 fun and engaging activities with a family member—from walking together or doing push-ups to choosing healthier grocery items or helping a neighbor. Forms were sent home in early September, and participation soared, with 47 families joining.
A recognition ceremony was held during the October 6 morning assembly, celebrating participants and announcing Mrs. Logan’s 5th Grade Class as the winning group for September. This program will continue throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for forms coming home this week for October. Mrs. Smith noted, “Our goal is to show that wellness is something for everyone, and it can be a lot of fun!”
DEAM is an example of USD 239 aligning its physical education curriculum with state fitness standards and fulfilling its vision of a community that inspires all to learn, work, and thrive.
