Mr. Brubaker’s 7th-grade Social Studies class is taking learning to the next level with a creative project where students plan a road trip across Kansas. As they map out stops at state museums, parks, and historical trails, students sharpen research, geography, budgeting, writing, and collaboration skills. Mr. Brubaker stated, “Along the way, they’re discovering that Kansas is often overlooked by the national media when it comes to tourism—but the Sunflower State has much to offer.”
Indeed, it does. Students are learning about Kansas’ pivotal role in the Civil War, its contributions to aircraft production in World War II, and its impact on major historical movements that have shaped the United States. They're also exploring how Kansas has produced some of the nation’s most influential authors, leaders, aviators, and astronauts. Everyone from William Allen White, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Amelia Earhart, and more!
This project is a strong example of how North Ottawa County Public Schools continues to align curriculum to rigorous state standards—an essential part of our accreditation initiative and our broader vision to inspire all to learn, work, and thrive. Thank you, Mr. Brubaker, for your effort to plan rigorous, engaging, and fun learning for our students! #MotivatedHonorableSafe
