Seventh graders in Mrs. Arnold’s Robotics class at Minneapolis Junior High School recently engineered miniature buildings using cardboard, toothpicks, marshmallows, and other creative materials to withstand simulated earthquakes. The engaging project sparked excitement and creativity while reinforcing rigorous Kansas STEM Standards (science, technology, engineering, and math).
Mrs. Arnold emphasized the importance of balancing fun with academic challenge, ensuring students learn deeply through hands-on experience. She noted, “I just loved that they all had a lot of fun and remained motivated in order to achieve success.” This innovative activity is a clear example of how teachers in USD 239 North Ottawa County Public Schools continue to align curriculum with rigorous Kansas STEM Standards, preparing students for future success through engaging, real-world learning applications.
