On Tuesday, June 24, twelve Minneapolis Grade School teachers participated in a professional development session focused on the Kansas State Department of Education's K-6 Math Standards. The training, led by Jolene Peterson, a consultant from Smoky Hills Learning Center, was hosted by USD 239 North Ottawa County Public Schools.
This initiative aimed to help teachers unpack and implement the state math standards. Educators explored updates from the state and collaborated on strategies to integrate the standards into their daily lessons. A key focus was Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, encouraging teachers to continue to push students beyond simple recall thinking to deeper, application-based critical thinking.
“Realigning our curriculum to state standards is just another way that North Ottawa County Public Schools continues to inspire all students to learn, work, and thrive in their critical thinking skills,” said Superintendent Curtis Stevens, who praised the dedication of teachers working during their summer break.
