This week, Minneapolis Senior High School Students took part in a series of community service learning projects throughout North Ottawa County, showing their dedication to making a positive impact where they live. From cleaning cemetery graves to picking up trash along local highways, students rolled up their sleeves and gave back in meaningful ways in Ada, Delphos, and Minneapolis.
In addition to cleaning efforts, students painted a U.S. Map Mural at the MGS playground, cleaned fire trucks at the Minneapolis Fire Station, and helped paint house numbers on sidewalks to assist emergency responders. One group helped Scoular Grain paint the area near a loading dock and scale. These projects not only beautify the area but also improve safety and accessibility for residents.
The initiative was part of a county-wide service learning program aimed at teaching students the value of civic responsibility and teamwork while benefiting the local community.
USD 239 Superintendent Curtis Stevens praised the staff for their help in coordinating this event. Furthermore, he thanked students for their hard work and commitment. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and our community,” Dr. Stevens said. “Our young people are learning the importance of service while building strong connections throughout the community.”
With hundreds of students participating from MJSHS, the event served as a powerful reminder of the difference young people can make when given the opportunity to contribute.
