On Friday, October 3, nearly 100 dedicated Minneapolis Lions fans made the 80-mile trip south from Minneapolis to Halstead to cheer on their team. Their support was rewarded as the Lions toppled the Halstead Dragons 40–21, contributing to their season 3-2 win-loss record. A record that garnered attention from Sports in Kansas when it added the Minneapolis Lions to its Pleasant Surprises: Kansas 11-Man Teams Exceeding our Expectations List (see list below).

The Lions capitalized early on Halstead’s mistakes, recovering two first-quarter fumbles and scoring off a sharp drive led by quarterback Owen Just. Brayton Peters added a two-point conversion, while a botched Halstead snap resulted in a safety. By halftime, Minneapolis had surged ahead 25–6.

Peters continued his dominance after the break, adding two more touchdowns and a key conversion. Although Halstead mounted an attempted third-quarter comeback, narrowing the gap to 33–21, Minneapolis controlled the fourth quarter with clock management and a final touchdown by sophomore Jasper Johns.

Owen Just, Brayton Peters, Bryson Lonberger, and Jasper Johns delivered standout performances. Logan Haley contributed two points with his consistent kicking throughout the night. Ultimately, the Minneapolis Lions dominated much of the game and capitalized on Halstead’s numerous fumbles.

Next week, the Minneapolis Lions will travel to Beloit to take on the Trojans (2-3). A special thank you to everyone who was able to travel to Halstead. Also, a special thank you goes out to the MJSHS Cheer Squad for your efforts in helping support all of our teams. #LionPride
