USD 239 North Ottawa County Public Schools has announced its 2025-2026 Accreditation Plan, focusing on aligning the district curriculum to state standards. This initiative ensures that students continue to receive a rigorous education that prepares them for postsecondary success. The curriculum alignment initiative is part of the USD 239 Board of Education’s overall vision (listed below)—that was developed using community and staff input acquired during listening sessions held last year in Ada, Delphos, Minneapolis, and Wells.
To accomplish the significant goal of curriculum alignment to state standards, professional learning time will be dedicated to thoroughly reviewing the current district curriculum to integrate updated standards. Teachers and staff will examine the curriculum vertically (K-12) and horizontally (within each grade level) to ensure continuity and consistency across all subjects. "Several staff members participated in training and curriculum work this past summer. I wish our community could hear their conversations. Our staff members already deeply understand the curriculum; however, they are professionals who want to continue to learn more." Superintendent Stevens noted.
Staff will receive yearly training on updated state standards and Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Framework. These tools support deeper student learning and provide resources to continue challenging students at appropriate cognitive levels to best prepare students for postsecondary success. Dr. Stevens explained, "State standards are constantly changing, so our district must continue to review and realign our curriculum and resources to ensure students are prepared for standards assessed by the state annually."
USD 239 encourages parents and community members to engage with our schools by joining the Minneapolis Grade School and Minneapolis Junior/Senior High School Site Councils. The high school's advisory board opportunities are also available through Career Pathways, hosted twice annually. Interested individuals should contact the school principal.
