MHS Scholars Bowl Qualifies for State

by Lana Reinhart

February 07, 2012

The Minneapolis High School Scholars Bowl Team placed 3rd at Regionals on Thursday, February 2, to qualify for the state tournament.  Fifteen teams participated in the Regional competition held at TMP-Hays.  Competition was divided into two pools, with Norton placing first in Pool B (6-0), followed by Russell (5-1) and Minneapolis (4-2).  These three teams advanced to the finals competition where they faced Goodland (7-0), Holcomb (5-2), and TMP-Hays (4-3) from Pool A.

“We were concerned going into finals because we knew Goodland was undefeated, but we soon discovered that our two biggest competitors would be the two teams that had defeated us in pool play,” commented Coach Lana Reinhart.  “The top three teams from our pool were the same teams that qualified for state.”  Russell placed first in finals, followed by Norton and Minneapolis.  “We were very proud of our kids,” stated Coach Leslie Baker.  “They were determined to advance to state, and they worked hard to see that it happened.”

State competition will be held at Kingman High School on Saturday, February 11, beginning at 12:00 p.m.  Team members participating include Quinton Church, Tanner Davis, Cameron Church, Macy Root, Danny Scharplaz, and alternate Daryl Simmons.
