On November 7th, a group of MHS students drove to Junction City for the KMEA (Kansas Music Education Association) contest.
Anxiously awaiting their turn to tryout, the competing students nervously performed scales and met students from other schools.
“The bus rides are amazing. Somehow we spent the whole ride back singing last year’s catalogue. But when auditions start, you walk into that tiny room and all hope is gone. By the time you’re done you just want out of there. I never know how I make it to district,” said Quinton Church.
Ariel Hoppe '12, Ellie Labes '11, Meredith Clark '13, Quinton Church '12, Hunter Clark '12, Eileen Price '13, Cameron Church '13, and Kylen Laws '12 participated in the choir portion of the contest.
In Choir,
Labes, Hoppe, and Church made it to districts, and will know in
December if they preformed well enough to make the state group.
Spencer Roy '11, Emily Rankin '10, and Michaela Diercks '12 went to
KMEA for band. Roy plays the tuba; Rankin, flute; and
Diercks, trumpet.
Spencer Roy has made it to district, earning second chair and
Michaela Diercks is first alternate.
