LEO Club Organizes

MHS Students Serve Community

By Mary Heikes

November 11, 2009

Outside the school day, some students at MJSHS meet to develop projects for LEO Club, a community service organization led by advisor Val Beikmann. The LEO Club is an extension of the adult Lions’ Club.

The LEO in LEO Club stands for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. Some times students just get together for a pizza party, barbecue, or for meetings to decide what kind of service projects we are going to do.

The Minneapolis LEO Club has completed many fun and rewarding projects, selling Big Coloring Books, going to Wichita and cleaning the Ronald McDonald House, and helping with a community dinner in Tescott.
LEO members see this as a time to hang out with friends and make a difference in the world.

Destinee Goetz says, “I like LEO club--I think it’s fun to get to spend time with friends and help out in the community.”
