Minneapolis High School students prepare for fall performance of Guys and Dolls

by Morgan Halderson

October 13, 2009

Several MHS students will be performing in the play Guys and Dolls this fall. The matinee for the Grade School is on November 11 at 1:00. Other shows will be on November 13th and 14th at 7:00.

Cast members include Ellie Labes, Sarah Brown; Kendall Perry, Adelaide; Hunter Clark, Sky Masterson; Caleb Kindall, Nathan Detroit; Quinton Church, Nicely-Nicely; Cameron Church, Benny; Kyle Egger, Rusty; Charlie Lynn, Arvide; Weston Penn, Brannigan/Joey; Christian Orzano, Harry; Jacob Snider, Big Jule; Jake Eckert, Angie the Ox; Kylen Laws, Waitress; Grayson George, Announcer; Meredith Clark, Mimi; Emily Rankin, G. Cartwright; Mackenzie Mortimer, Agatha; Addison Roth, Lydia Swisher, Jaidyn McHenry, Jacy Crosson, Macy Root, Jessi Walker, Nancy Radabaugh, Ariel Hoppe, Sarah Sharp, Gabby Blochlinger, Eileen Price, Emma Giles, Hot Box/Mission Girls; Keegan McCullick, Grayson George, Logan Wedel, Garrett Lott, Matt Comfort, Colin Briggs, Sean Forte, Tyrel Owens, Adam Klein, Gamblers.

The plot takes place in 1950's New York City. All the gamblers are in town, and they’re all depending on Nathan Detroit to set up this week’s incarnation of “The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York.” The only problem is, he needs $1000 to get the place. Throw in Sarah Brown, who’s short on sinners at the mission she runs; Sky Masterson, who accepts Nathan’s $1000 bet that he can’t get Sarah Brown to go with him to Havana; Miss Adelaide, who wants Nathan to marry her; Police Lieutenant Brannigan, who always seems to appear at the wrong time; and the music/lyrics of Frank Loesser, and you’ve got quite a musical. The play will be presented with consent from Music Theatre International. The play is written by Damon Runyon.
