Minneapolis Band Steps into Fall
MHS Pep Band and Marching Band Entertains Crowds

Friday nights at MHS football games, as the announcer likes to point out, are “Minneapolis version of Friday Night Lights.” Lots of spirit is evident at the games: the cheerleaders clapping and shouting, the dance team’s half-time show, and of course the Pep Band.
The Pep Band starts the game with the fight song, play while the crowd is saluting the flag, make some noise when the Lions score a touchdown, and at half-time keep the crowd’s spirit up while they await for the players return.
Songs played by the Pep Band include “On Wisconsin” (Fight Song), “The Star Spangled Banner,” “I Can’t Get no Satisfaction,” “Proud Mary,” “Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” and “So What.”
From Rolling Stones to Pink, the Minneapolis Pep Band is kicking up school spirit. Under the direction of Mr. Dennis Ball (this year, the announcers have remembered his correct name), the band is off to a great start.
On September 16th, the band traveled to Hutchinson for the state fair. After some confusion with the line ups, the band shook it off and played their best without any collisions, dropped music or totally offbeat marchers. The tone was good with no audible stray notes from the people who forgot to take the Coda.
So,
come to the games, support our players, cheer with the
cheerleaders, watch the dance team, and listen to the pep band’s
variety of songs. “We’re a unique group. Not boring.
We all have our own funk and spirit and it shows when we
play,” says Mary Heikes (12).
