September 21, 2009

The MHS XC Team traveled to Hesston for their XC meet on Thursday, Sept. 10.  The Hesston Meet is a large meet in which there are schools ranging from classifications of 1-6A.  The athletes race against all of the schools in their own class (Freshman, Soph. etc..), 1-6A, and then at the end of the race they break into a 1-3A chute to finish and a 4-6A chute.

In the senior boys race, Dillon Hackett won the boys 1-3A race with a time of 17:00.20.  It was the fastest 1-3A boys finish of the day and the 4th fastest time 1-6A.  Other senior boys running for the Lions were:  Logan Wedel at 27th, John Corman - 41st and Kyle Egger - 42nd.

In the junior boys 1-3A race, Garrett Daugherty got 2nd in a time of 17:33.  His time was the 4th fastest for the day in the 1-3A boys.  Spencer Roy, also a junior, placed 32nd.

Collin Trickle won the sophomore boys race in 17:42.   His time was the 6th fastest for the day in the 1-3A boys.  Other sophomore MHS runners were:  Daryl Simmons - 23rd and Corey Egger - 26th.  In the freshman boys race, Isaac Kuder placed 26th.

In the girls races, Anna Trahan took 2nd in the 1-3A freshmen girls with a time of 16:28.16.  Her time was the 4th fastest time for the day in 1-3A girls.  In the junior girls, Kylee Gragg was 5th in 17:29, Shelbi Hamilton was 6th in 17:34, and Emma Giles was 22nd.  In the senior girls, Kendall Perry was 12th.  Both boys and girls teams placed 5th as a team at the Hesston Meet.

The Clay Center XC Meet was the site of competition on Thursday, September 17.  The MHS team was struggling with illness, so only 8 runners of the 17 on the team raced that day.  Anna Trahan placed 4th in a time of 17:07 and Morgan Halderson placed 57th in the girls 4K race.

In the boys race, Collin Trickle placed 6th in 18:11 and Garrett Daugherty placed 7th in 18:24.  Logan Wedel was 35th, Daryl Simmons - 56th, John Corman - 58th, and Spencer Roy - 59th.  Isaac Kuder was 29th in the boys JV race.  "This is a tough course with a lot of good teams competing here,"  stated Coach Dina Giles.  "There were 12 teams, most of them 3-4A.  In the boys competition, including JV, there were 134 runners.  In the girls race there were 96 runners."
