Minneapolis FFA Takes 3rd at Livestock Judging

The Minneapolis FFA competed in the North Central District livestock judging career development event held at the Fink’s Ranch near Randolph on March 26.  

The greenhand division is for freshmen.  Jake Eckert finished 7th in the district contest out of 79 contestants from 21 schools.  Dylan Crosson placed 11th, with the team placing 3rd.  In the Greenhand Division Invitation Contest, the team took 3rd out of 31 schools.  Participating Greenhands were Jake Eckert in 11th, Dylan Crosson in 17th, Garret Pounds, Kyler Macy, Jacob Snider, Cameron Walker, Josh Mullen, Dustin Thompson, Spencer Melhus, and Mike Sjolander.

In the Senior Division, Minneapolis took 4th out of 21 teams.  Analena Simmons placed 1st individually out of 90 contestants.  Other competitors were Jacob Klein in 13th, Trevor Girard, Cameron Mullen, Katie Nichols, and Steven Porter. 

In the Junior 4-H division, the team placed 9th out of 13 teams.  Meredith Clark placed 10th out of 54 contestants.  Other competitors were Daryl Simmons and Zack Allison.  

Overall, the Minneapolis Senior FFA team took 6th out of 34 teams in the State Invitation Contest.  Individually, Analena Simmons placed 1st out of 142 contestants.  The contest consisted of eight classes of beef, swine, and sheep with a set of oral reasons over each species.  They also took a written test.  

Minneapolis FFA members represented our school well this year with an impressive finish and an overall outstanding performance in a highly competitive invitational event, with students competing from across the state including:  Buhler, Pleasant Ridge, Prairie View, Wabaunsee, Haven, and Marysville, to name a few.
