FFA Chapter Presents Awards at Annual Banquet

Members of the Minneapolis FFA Chapter hosted their parents and guests at the annual FFA banquet April 18, 2008, at the high school. The evening began with a meal of country fried steak, barbecued brisket, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, orange jello salad, rolls, brownies, ice cream, and tea which was provided by Coachlight Restaurant of Longford. Brownies were provided by the FFA members.
Nineteen new members received their Greenhand Degree, which is awarded to first year members with satisfactory supervised agricultural experience programs. These members were Alex Colosimo, Dylan Crosson, Garrett Daugherty, Jake Eckert, Kylee Gragg, Cody Hamm, Ty Hamm, Austin Jensen, Kyler Macy, Spencer Melhus, Josh Mullen, Garrett Pounds, Cody Rarig, Zac Rathbun, Micheal Sjolander, Kassi Smith, Jacob Snider, Dustin Thompson, and Cameron Walker. Members who received their Chapter FFA degrees were Diedre Aurand, Amber Buckles, Austin Crosson, Tyler Davis, Trevor Girard, Morgan Halderson, Katie Nichols, Parker Roth, Sydney Roth, Jessica Smith, and Kyle Teske. This award is based on students demonstrating leadership and maintaining a supervised agricultural experience program.
The Honorary Chapter FFA Degree, the highest award a chapter can bestow upon an individual, was presented to Scott Ausherman, Brent Kindall, Jeff Lott, and Kenny Chapman for their support of the Minneapolis FFA. Scholarship pins were presented to Freshmen Kassi Smith and Dylan Crosson, Sophomore Morgan Halderson, Junior Analena Simmons, and Seniors Alyson McCall and Jared Schmidt. Alyson McCall and Jared Schmidt each received a $150 scholarship from the chapter this year. Alyson plans on attending Kansas State University majoring in pre-veterinary medicine. Jared also plans on attending Kansas State University and majoring in sports medicine.
Proficiency award winners this year were Alyson McCall - Ag sales placement, public speaking, and equine science; Analena Simmons - beef production entrepreneurship and beef production placement, diversified livestock proficiency, sheep production, and specialty animal placement; Sydney Roth - turf grass management, and home and community development; Jacob Klein - agricultural mechanics repair and maintenance placement; Tyler Hohner - agricultural services; Josh Mullen, Zac Rathbun, and Garrett Pounds - diversified agricultural production; Johnathan Reid - grain production and poultry; Jared Schmidt - landscape management; Kyler Macy - swine production; Jessica Smith - small animal production; and Dylan Crosson - diversified livestock.
Dylan Crosson was this year’s recipient of the Star Greenhand Award, and Alyson McCall received the Star in Placement award and leadership pin. Alyson and Jared Schmidt were presented the Star Chapter Farmer Award. Jared also won the Star in Agribusiness Award.
New officers installed for 2008-09 were President- Jacob Klein, Vice-President- Analena Simmons, Secretary- Katie Nichols, Treasurer- Cameron Walker, Reporter- Tyler Hohner, and Sentinel- Deidre Aurand.
An open house to view projects in the Ag education classroom and shop concluded the evening.
