February 16, 2008

This year’s District FFA Poultry Career Development Event was held January 31 in Manhattan.  Dylan Crosson placed 2nd, Jonathan Reid placed 3rd, Steven Porter placed 6th, Garrett Folger placed 7th, and Garrett Daugherty placed 10th out of 79 contestants.  Also competing in the competition were Garrett Pounds, Kassi Smith, Jacob Snider, Josh Mullen, Kylee Gragg, Cameron Mullen, and Tyler Hohner.  Minneapolis finished with 1,495 points for first, outscoring Clay Center with 1,364 and Chapman with 1,308.  A total of 16 teams from nine schools competed in the event.  The contest consisted of an exam, judging chicken carcasses, judging production hens, a class of cull/keep broiler breeders, interior egg grading, grading exterior eggs, placing chicken patties, and identification and grading of chicken parts.  The team now has qualified for the state competition to be held in May at Kansas State University.
