Lady Lions Split

The week the Lady Lions got a split decision...
Minneapolis hosted the Clifton-Clyde Eagles at home for the first time in a number of years. It was a chance for the Lady Lions to play a team that they may see later on in Sub-state competition.
In the beginning, the Lady Lions leapt to an early 12-8 lead and extended it to 25-17 by half-time. The third quarter saw the lead extend to thirteen, 37-24, by the end. The start of the fourth was solid for the Lady Lions, pushing out to a 15 point lead, before the Lady Eagles spread their wings and began to fly all around the court. An offensive rebound and put-back here, a steal there, and all of the sudden the lead was cut to 44-39. Minneapolis settled down and put the game out of reach with some late free-throws, winning 48-43. “This was a chance for the girls to see what happens when you let down your guard against a solid ball-club. We were rolling and then became a little lax in our execution on both ends of the floor. Two major positives in the game were our execution on offense, for the most part, and hitting free-throws in crunch-time,” stated Coach Darrow.
The Friday game was a road trip to Beloit to take on the Lady Trojans. It was a defensive contest that featured great defense from both sides, which limited shots and scoring opportunities. There was not one quarter that either team scored in double figures. The Lady Lions played ferocious half-court defense, but could not crack the Lady Trojan’s defense and fell 18-26. “Defensively we played as well as any game this year. Offensively we couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean. What makes me most proud is that we could have hung our heads several times throughout the game and not played with heart. But this is another group of young ladies that refused to quit and gave themselves a chance to stay in the game by playing fantastic defense,” commented Coach Darrow.
