This past week the Lions hosted the Washington County Tigers. In what would prove to be a defensive struggle, the Lions fell just short. The Tigers struck first due to some missed tackles by the Lions and converted the two point conversion to go up 8-0 early in the first quarter. The offense answered as Connor Christensen scored behind the blocking of Sean Forte, Connor Nace, Preston Williamson, Zach Allison, and Connor Flegler. Andrew Yoxall kicked the PAT to cut the Tiger lead to just 1.
The rest of the game proved to be a back and forth contest as both teams struggled to score. The Lions grabbed the momentum late and marched to the Tiger twenty-five late in the fourth quarter. Hoping to set up an Andrew Yoxall field goal attempt, the Lions went to the air. Unfortunately, the attempts fell short and the clock ran out, leaving the Lions with their first loss of the season.
The B-team took the field for a fifth quarter. Washington's lack of players forced a 10 play per team format, in which no score was kept. Unofficially, the Tigers scored once, and the Lions failed to score.
This week the Lions will be at Belleville. The B-team will play a full game beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by the A-team game.
