Students Celebrate Pi Day

Most school days go by unnoticed, but March 14, 2007, held special interest for 7th and 8th grade math students. Celebration was in order for Pi Day. Mrs. Henderson's math classes have continued the annual tradition of cutting loose and having a day of fun. Pi, an irrational number found by dividing the circumference of a circle by its diameter, has been so honored for 301 years. The day began with a pi line up and many students greeted faculty and peers with a pi welcome.
Throughout the day students created pi posters, counted the frequency of digits within groupings, played games involving pi, and recited the digits of pi. The record of 101 memorized digits remains intact. For accountability of their knowledge and involvement, each student prepared a Powerpoint of songs, activities, pictures and the history of pi. Our day ended with pi treats. Anything round was permissible to serve.
