First Grade students at Minneapolis Grade School enjoyed special activities the afternoon before Thanksgiving break.   Stations were set up in each of the three classrooms and students traveled to each classroom to enjoy the following:  1) In Mrs. Pratt’s classroom, students watched a movie about dogs and cats learning to get along and share resources such as food and shelter;  2) Mrs. Sanders’ room was the location where students created their own edible Thanksgiving turkeys from fruit loops and mini cinnamon donuts; and 3) In Mrs. Nichols’ room, the first grade students joined efforts with employees from the Bennington State Bank in a “Stockings for Seniors” project.  For this special activity, students were given a Christmas stocking that had been purchased by the Bank, and they were given the task of using holiday decorations to create their own unique design on one of the stockings.  The finished Christmas stockings will be filled with gifts for the residents of the Minneapolis Health and Rehabilitation Center and Long Term care patients at the Ottawa County Health Center.  Before delivering to seniors in mid-December, the stockings will be displayed at the Bennington State Bank for all to see the beautiful designs created by the students.  Not only will the stockings and gifts bring joy and cheer to the senior residents, but this was a wonderful opportunity to teach children that the true spirit of the Christmas season is GIVING.
